Pre go-live asset testing: requirements

Testing is needed before posting.

Viewers will be accessing posts on a variety of platforms, operating systems, and devices. Often times, unexpected cropping and functionality issues arise due to the way certain platforms or devices automatically adapt posts.

Since platforms are frequently making changes to their methods, testing is the best way to be certain we’re not surprised by unintentional problems.

Testing ensures we always have the optimal end product when sending it out into the real world.

Operating Systems:

Pre go-live asset testing: process

1. Set up accounts.

Create a test account for each platform. This allows you to post content, but keep it out of the public eye. The one exception is Facebook, which allows for a “me only” option to screen who can see your content.

To set up the test account, you will need an email that is not affiliated with any other account for that platform. We recommend using “Test” for the first name and “Content” as the last name of each account to clearly differentiate from any personal account you might have.

2. Test assets.

Using your test account, upload final assets to each platform and check for the following:

Image
• Appears clear and crisp
• Fits correctly within the viewing frame

Video/GIF
• Appears clear and crisp
• Starts automatically
• Plays in its entirety
• Fits correctly within the viewing frame
• Auto-repeats if it is supposed to
• Includes captioning that is accurate and properly timed

If an asset doesn’t meet any of the above criteria, revise creative files and test again until everything is optimized.

3. Share test results report.

Take screen shots of your final post results and create an Asset Testing PDF to accompany all electronic files for posting. Be sure to provide screenshots of both post and feed views as applicable.
